Owl Ridge uses our own timberframe designers
to produce complete home plans and architectural drawings. We also
produce 3D renderings, as used in the Million Dollar Millennium
Dream Home, to give the customer a very good idea of the finished
structure. At Owl Ridge, we use a variety of CAD (computer aided
design) systems for creating our timberframes We perform residential
house design using SoftPlan and AutoCAD and use cadwork to build
the 3-d model of your timberframe.
SoftPlan architectural design software is a CAD program developed
specifically to automate the design and presentation of residential
and light commercial construction projects. The idea behind SoftPlan
is to build a 3-D model of your design inside the computer before
you build on the lot. This "Virtual Model" gives you
a complete set of working drawings, 3D renderings and an accurate
materials list and cost estimate. After a design has been chosen,
it goes to our cadwork system for timber layout and to AutoCAD
for the architectural drawings.
AutoCAD is the industry standard for computer aided drafting.
Our designers create your architectural drawings with this program.
It gives us the power and flexibility to efficiently produce top
quality drawings that are build-able. These building plans are
in a standard format that is familiar for the various agencies
to understand, thus allowing you to get your building permits and
funding (if used) as quickly as possible.
Our cadwork program takes the DXF file generated from SoftPlan
and transforms the information into beam layout drawings. It can
also produce 3-D renderings of the timberframe structure in order
to see the exact construction of your home from any vantage point.
It gives you the ability to preview the beautiful timberframe structure
in 3-dimension before any tool is applied to timber. cadwork produces
dimensioned shop drawings of each and every timber in your home
and these files are used to program the K2 Hundegger milling machine
for the cutting of your frame. These layout drawings for our stock
and custom frames are available to you if you are interested in
cutting your own frame at home.
All design quotations are based on actual square footage and not
exaggerated time estimates. Prices range from $1.00 US a square
foot and up.
Also available to our design team is professional engineering
services. We are affiliated with J. Arthur Rogers P. Eng. M.E.I.C.
M.I. Structural Engineer. He has over 30 years practice in structural
engineering with considerable experience in heavy timber frame
construction.
We work in conjunction with Alpine Engineering for projects in
the United States. Alpine Engineering has the qualifications and
experience to engineer timberframes in the tough areas like California.
Between our crew at Owl Ridge, Art Rogers, and Alpine Engineering
we can design almost anything that can come to mind. The end result
is an accurately cut frame and a comprehensive set of final drawings
which are used by Owl Ridge and you or your contractor to create
the home of your dreams.
